Modern research has shown natural plant oils to stimulate multiple regions in the brain, including those controlling the limbic (emotional center) function. Essential oils have a direct and profound effect on the deepest levels of the body, emotions, and psyche. Through inhalation, essential oils have a strong and immediate influence. Passing through the capillary beds of the sinuses and activating the olfactory nerves, plant oils enter the brain, producing direct and powerful systemic effects – the most immediate being on the emotions. Our emotions and our sense of smell have very strong ties – perhaps more than with any other of the other four senses.
This is why I take great care in choosing which essential oils to use in my bars. I want my bars to uplift you each and every time you use them.
There are a lot of great essential oils that can bring about feelings of happiness. They all work differently on everyone. I have found that certain essential oils don’t jive with my inner workings. No biggie – there are plenty of others to choose from.
Today I thought I would share the 5 Lessor Known Essential Oils That Boost My Happiness. I am hoping that these can also boost yours, should you need it! My favorite way to use essential oils is in a diffuser but you can certainly add a drop or two to a carrier oil and rub it on your wrists, neck and/or temples.
Lemon Balm – this herb plant belongs to the mint family. It is considered to be an anti-depressant herb and its essential oil has been successfully used as a remedy for mental depression. Lemon balm EO has been shown to ease brain fatigue and help lift the heart from depression.
Clary Sage – is warming and calming. It’s been used to treat depression and can help balance out emotions that are drifting too far in any one direction. It’s slightly sweet and subtle and blends well with other oils.
Sandalwood – this oil has always been held in high regard as it was frequently used in incense. The fragrance of sandalwood essential oil creates grounding effect, and promotes feelings of wellbeing. Due to its sedative and antidepressant effects, it can help improve sleep as well as support circulation and the nervous system.
Rose – is known to be an anti-depressant and has many mood-boosting properties. It is used to soothe the nerves, calm the nervous system and acts as a tonic to relieve symptoms of depression.
Lemon – has the ability to fight off anger, the blues, and anxiety. It is the perfect essential oil to keep close, especially when you’re feeling run down emotionally.
